BECiNE | Los Angeles

IN A LAND full of rental houses run by men, BiANCA HALPERN owns and operates, with her incredible staff, BECiNE – the only woman-owned camera rental house in Los Angeles.
Originally a cinematographer based in Brazil, she noticed early-on that her male counterparts were always shooting with better lenses and better budgets overall. In 2017, she moved to the US and vowed to offer to other women-in-film the gear she wished she had, like being offered the opportunity to use great lenses and oftentimes sliding scale budgets for up and coming filmmakers.
Usually, unlike the more casual pace of bigger rental houses where assistants and operators have a few days to prep, in smaller houses, crews often need to get a package quickly to get on set or location, sometimes even on the same day. The Opti-Glide system is especially helpful for these types of houses with high traffic and last-minute checkouts that need to be done expeditiously.
BECiNE’s Opti-Glide installation was all about “Getting it done”.
Bianca understands and knows how to help her clients. They moved to a new location where in order to install the system, we had to get really ‘high’. The ceiling was almost 30 feet. The two 24 ft Opti-Glide lanes are installed with Pedestals opposite to one another, maximizing space allocated to the equipment. Pedestals are equipped with both flush mounting plates and Hi-Hats to offer more mounting options. Each lane is equipped with the Calibration-free distance digital readout system and the hand crank modules.
This time, we got high. With 24ft tall ceilings, mounting these Opti-Glides presented an intriguing challenge. BiANCA decided on two 24ft Opti-Glides with Pedestals opposite to one another, maximizing space allocated to the equipment. Pedestals are equipped with both flush mounting plates and Hi-Hats to offer more mounting options. Each lane is equipped with the Calibration-free distance digital readout system and the hand crank modules. This installation highlights how Boutique rental houses can cater to the needs of an essential constituent in our Industry, the Independent Filmmaker.
